GLIER Foodweb Model (.xls)
The bioaccumulation model was developed as part of the Detroit River Modelling and Management Framework to provide a tool for evaluating beneficial use impairments in the Detroit River AOC. The bioaccumulation model is used to predict contaminant concentrations in different species of aquatic animals. This information is then compared with critical tissue concentrations established for the protection of aquatic species (i.e. Canadian Tissue Residue Guidelines) or for the protection of fish tissues for human consumption (i.e. MOE or Michigan guidelines to establish fish consumption advisory information). In this manner, the bioaccumulation model is used to establish a hazard assessment for a given beneficial use impairment in the Detroit River.
